Porsche GB launches Project 50; the idea to run a historic race 911 on a journey to some of the most famous racetracks in Europe. 11-13 October - Jerez Masters festival

This week's image clearly demonstrates the increased width and, as a result, sheer road presence of the new 991-series 911 Turbo. The newcomer is a full 28 mm wider than the Carrera 4 model, which itself is 44 mm wider than the Carrera 2. Housing new 20"-inch diameter alloy wheels, the rear panels feature a nearly level surface, about the width of a hand, between the base of the C-pillar and the outer edge of the body. The overall effect is both purposeful and dramatic, as has come to be expected from the flagship of the 911 range.

New all-wheel drive running gear with active rear axle steering, adaptive aerodynamics, full LED headlights and up to 560 hp from the flat-six twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre engine emphatically underline the character of the latest 911 Turbo and Turbo S models, and these dynamic styling enhancements communicate its extreme personality perfectly.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo and 911 Turbo S

911 Turbo sets new reference values for dynamics and fuel consumption
Stuttgart.

The Porsche model offensive in the anniversary year of the 911 is reach-ing new heights. 50 years ago, the 911 made its debut at the Frankfurt International Auto Show. And just ten years later, the first 911 Turbo prototype was at the IAA.

On this 40th anniversary Porsche is now presenting the new generation 911 Turbo and Turbo S – the technological and dynamic performance peak of the 911 series. New all-wheel drive, active rear axle steering, adaptive aerodynamics, full-LED headlights and the up to 560 hp flat six-cylinder engine with bi-turbo charging underscore the role of the new generation 911 Turbo as a circuit racing car, everyday car and tech-nology platform. Playing an equally crucial role are the entirely new chassis in light-weight design with a 100 mm longer wheelbase and larger 20-inch wheels. The PDCC active anti-roll system, which is being offered for the first time in 911 Turbo models, increases dynamic performance even more. This system is standard equip-ment in the 911 Turbo S, as is the Sport Chrono Package with dynamic engine mounts and PCCB ceramic brakes; all of these features are also available as options in the 911 Turbo.

The results: The new 911 Turbo S shortens the lap time for the North Loop of the Nürburgring to well under 7:30 minutes – naturally with standard production tyres. The standard sound symposer intensifies the driving experience; it transmits induction sounds of the turbo engine to the passenger compartment via a speaker diaphragm.

This is the second generation Porsche Panamera, which made its world debut at the Auto China Show in Shanghai on 21 April. The new model brings not only subtle enhancements to the Panamera's design - signified by more pronounced contours and tighter lines - but also introduces exciting new technologies. True to the Porsche philosophy of 'Intelligent Performance', the new Panamera range offers a new E-Hybrid (plug-in hybrid) model, the first car in its class to offer such an advanced powertrain. The Panamera S E-Hybrid offers combined system power of 416 hp, with the potential to deliver over 90 mpg on the combined cycle and the ability to operate up to 22 miles on pure electric power alone. Another new engine also features in the range: a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 petrol, for both the Panamera S and 4S models. The new model range will arrive in the UK later this year.

A fast-moving multitude of 911 GT3 racers is both a visual and aural assault on the senses. Just like every Porsche, the Carrera Cup GB race series is dynamic, dramatic and truly embodies the philosophy of 'Intelligent Performance'.

At Donington last week, the 2013 season kicked off with typically thrilling bumper-to-bumper racing from its bevy of skilled drivers. But it was reigning champion Michael Meadows who showed who's boss with a double victory - the first taste of success for his new Samsung Smart Motorsports quad.

Picture of the Week: 718 W-RS

As part of the 911's 50th anniversary celebrations, the Porsche Museum will be boosting its 'Rolling Museum' appearances - and a great example took place this week at the 'Langenburg Historic'. There, the beautiful and legendary 718 W-RS Spyder took centre stage, driven by Jürgen Barth whose father, Edgar Barth, won the European Mountain Championship in 1963 in just such a race car.

Other notable activities for the 2013 Rolling Museum programme include the famous 1,000-mile Mille Miglia, the 24 Hours of Le Mans (where 1970 legends Hans Hermann and the Porsche 917 KH will both be present) and the UK's Goodwood Festival of Speed, among numerous other historical events.
